A Dog Party!

Our Golden Retriever, Cally, turned 13 on Valentine's Day.  Miranda somehow remembered that her birthday was on Valentine's Day.  She kept asking me if we could have a birthday party for her.  I said that was fine thinking we would just have cake and ice cream as a family and sing "Happy Birthday" to Cal.  Miranda had bigger ideas for the party.  She made a banner that said, "Happy Birthday Cally" and stretched it across the entryway to the kitchen.  She made invitations and Saturday morning (Cally's b.day) asked me when I was going to take her to deliver the invitations.  Oh, no!!  Luckily, while Miranda was at the store with me earlier in the week we bought cake and ice cream, napkins with dogs on them, and even party hats!  Thankfully, there were some friends home to come to the party and moms with a good sense of humor who even sent gifts of dog bones and biscuits for the birthday girl!  Miranda made sure Cal was ready for her party.  She brushed her with the human comb!  She put my perfume on her!  She put bows in her hair which Cal immediately shook out much to Miranda's dismay.  Cal kept looking at me as if to say, "I am much too old for this!"  We played "Doggie, Doggie Where's Your Bone?", Pin the Tail on the dog, and Miranda hid pictures of dogs around the room and whoever found the most was the winner!  Cal was a little stressed during her party, especially when her cake was set in front of her with lighted candles!  Miranda helped her blow them out!  She was not too happy about her Tinkerbell party tiara either.  She was very happy when I set a piece of cake in front of her without the candles!  She gobbled that up and then walked to the door to be let outside!  Good job, Miranda, for remembering Cal's birthday and planning a dog party!
